Van Damme V10(PP) combines the growth and carcase attributes of Soldier with the inherent fertility of his maternal line. We find that our most fertile cows are more often than not borne out of cows that have similar calving records. Not only do they conceive every year, but they rear a calf to weaning - they get the job done. Through strict culling, the cream rises to the top. Our job as breeders is to select the next generation with a goal of increasing the likelihood of this extreme fertility continuing. Because bulls sire large numbers of calves, the fastest way to make genetic change in a herd is to retain young bulls as sires whose pedigree is chock full of such animals. Van Damme offers an interesting genetic package. He is homozygous polled, has tested with an 87 percent normal semen morphology result and is a strong headed, sirey type.
